Bridget George

Bridget is an Anishinaabe illustrator as well as author/illustrator who sits with the Bear Clan. She was raised on the shore of Lake Huron in the beautiful First Nations community of Kettle and Stony Point. She is passionate about creating space for authentic and diverse Indigenous representation, especially for children, and enjoys working on illustration projects built on a foundation of love and meaningful connection.

Bridget’s illustration career grew roots with the publication of her debut author-illustrated book, It’s a Mitig! (Douglas & McIntyre, 2019), a rhyming dual-language book created to connect her toddler with her family’s Indigenous language. It’s a Mitig was the winner of the 2020–2021 First Nations Communities READ: PMC Indigenous Literature Award, sponsored by the Ontario Library Service.

Bridget has been busy illustrating the works of other writers, such as Autumn Peltier, Water Warrior, authored by Carole Lindstrom, author of the Caldecott-winning We Are Water Protectors (Roaring Brook, 2023), which was named a “Best Book of the Year” by the Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature and American Indians in Children’s Literature.

Other illustration projects include six of the images in The Tragically Hip ABCs (Tundra Books, 2023), Too Much authored by Laurel Goodluck (Simon & Schuster BFYR, 2024), This Land authored by Ashley Fairbanks (Crown, 2024), and artwork for a children’s story by the late Richard Wagamese, to be published in late 2024.

Bridget lives with her family in London, Ontario. She believes that one of the best parts of children’s illustration is that it provides connection with one’s inner child. Bridget finds inspiration in the journey of parenthood, learning her ancestral language, and stopping to take a look at the wonderful world around her.
