Andrea Pippins

Andrea Pippins is an illustrator and author passionate about creating images that reflect what she wants to see in art, media, and design – empowerment, hope, joy, inclusivity, and celebrations of the arts and culture. She enjoys inspiring people of all ages to nurture their own creativity. Originally a graphic designer, Andrea’s versatility now lends itself to everything from vibrant line drawings and hand lettering to full-color illustration.

Andrea’s work has received wide coverage, including Essence Magazine, The New York Times, and O: The Oprah Magazine, and she has produced artwork for brands including HBO (for its Tina Turner feature), ESPN, Five Below, Instagram, Sephora, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Malala Fund, Nick Jr., and VH1. In 2020 her art was presented on the United States Postal Service’s Kwanzaa stamp.

She is the author of Who Will You Be? (RandomHouse), Hey, Baby! (RandomHouse), Becoming Me, and We Inspire Me (Chronicle Books) as well as I Love My Hair: A Coloring Book of Braids, Coils and Doodle Dos (Random House). She is a frequent collaborator, with projects including Jamia Wilson’s Young, Gifted and Black; Young, Gifted and Black Too; Step into Your Power, and Big Ideas for Young Thinkers (Quarto); and The Little Yogi Deck (Bala Kids). Her gorgeous illustrations were featured in Elizabeth Acevedo’s Inheritance: A Visual Poem (Quill Tree/HarperCollins) and Mae Makes a Way: The True Story of Mae Reeves, Hat & History Maker By Olugbemisola Rhuday-Perkovich (Crown Kids).

Andrea’s next author-illustrator picture book, The Spark In You (Random House Studio), will be out in early 2024, with many more to come.
